This morning as I unloaded the dishwasher listening to scripture I was hearing a bit more about the time when the Gadianton Robbers under Giddianhi were boldly stating they would come down out of their hiding places to battle. Lachoneus, the Chief Judge, sent out a proclamation to all in the land to repent and call upon the lord for strength and to gather everything and everyone together in one place in preparation for the time the robbers should come against them. In this instance the people are strengthened by the Lord and defeated the robber chasing them out the land again and killing Giddianhi in the process. What I was struck by is that when the Jaredite nations and another time the Nephites all gather together in one body it spells their utter destruction. This shows that it isn't that the strategy of gathering all together is what saved them, but the strength of the lord that preserved them as the other examples of when this type of gathering took place the people were unrepentant and prideful and in this state left to their own strength which was not sufficient to protect them.
Let's remember as we work to strengthen ourselves that we always need the added strength the Lord has to offer those who call upon his name.

Strength and Honour, Yes, the siege that backfired. That Lachoneus was an inspired leader. I wonder what spin a dishonest newspaper, television channel, or radio station would put on Lachoneus. “Unfair leader will not accept the fair offer of misunderstood citizens.” He saved those people. I need to pray for strength from the Lord at the start of every day. Thanks for the thoughts.
