By Disguise

Every so often in scripture there is a story about a man or woman of god that does something which seems a contradiction. Abraham and Sarah lying about their relationship comes to mind. It seems that even god recognizes occasions where a little deception may be protective. This by no means gives us free reign to bear false witness, but I find it fascinating. I was thinking on this after reading about Abinadi going back before Noah and his priests with a disguise so they couldn't recognize him. It's  not that a disguise is necessarily a bad thing, but it does seem deceptive which is generally not the Lord's way of operating.

Jacob and Esau and Rebecca is a case that seems dishonest but i have heard a theory that justifies that. I have often thought that Abinida’s disguise wasn’t very good. But he planned on getting caught so he must just have needed it to get by some guards or something. Captain Moroni doesn’t see anything wrong with using stratagems in war which makes perfect sense. Once in the Old Testament one prophet had been told not to stop on a journey but another prophet told him that the Lord had told him to tell the first prophet to rest for the night. The first guy rested and got killed by a wild animal the next morning. Yes, there are certainly things that make you scratch your head.
