Accountability
You know, it's amazing how useful having this accountability section is for me as it draws my attention to little slips I would otherwise easily let pass and not really catch until potentially my patterns had been undone by simply letting myself believe I am on the right track while slipping by not accounting for each committed opportunity. As such, I am noticing that I am bad at remembering to say my morning prayers when it's not a routine day. I get up and rush off to other things and realize later that I missed it. It gives an opportunity to correct it when I realize it, but also helps me see that my patterns aren't as firmly entrenched as I can tend to let myself believe. This morning was one of those. I got up and did my workout and listened to scriptures while doing dishes and sat to down to share an update upon realizing that even with having made my bed which should act as a trigger that I simply went on my way without a morning prayer (I've had one now, but see room for improvement).
I have been experimenting with some different workout ideas and nearing the completion of my first book that I intend to self-publish in the next month or so. One technique that I hadn't seen much science on until recently is using rest-pause sets (I used to call these cluster sets, but as terms are better defined a distinction has emerged to suggest that I am making a shift away from cluster sets into rest-pause sets - the distinction being that clusters use incomplete rest periods and may culminate in failure on the last set, but rest pause goes rights to failure, uses incomplete recovery and adds little batches of extra sets each to failure for an additional few rounds.) What makes this great for me is the time efficiency and the chance to get more reps near failure where many adaptations are at their greatest.
Today this meant a set of 9 pull-ups, followed by three more after 20-30 secs. rest, another three after that, and then a final 1 and an incomplete second repetition where I called the rest-pause set complete. I did the same for some back flyes and biceps curls and had some cycling sprints before and after all these. It was quick and efficient and I'm curious to see how it goes with some more time at it. The evidence in the scientific literature is promising showing advantages for growth and strength over fully rested traditional multiple set models in many cases so I'm pretty excited to see this goes.
Ponderings
My listening today had me in Isaiah Chapters early in the Book of Mormon and I admittedly had my mind on other things. I was curious with all the pride of the people (the wimples and the crisping pins) and the countenances betraying them to be even as Sodom (wearing sins with Pride on faces and adorning themselves in such) as very much matching what is going in the world around us.
