Good Friday 2025 Update

Accountability

Here I hold myself to account for anyone to see. Key things I'm keeping track of include daily scripture study and prayers and workout updates. Each of these things is set up to be very small at a minimum while I let the patterns become so deeply entrenched they become a part of who I am, not something I do. My minimums started out with simply saying a nightly prayer, reading and or listening to scriptures each day (at least one verse) and having some planned physical activity (even if it's just two minutes). Since starting this out I've progressed to where on average I read around a chapter of scripture each night, listen to scripture while putting away dishes from the dishwasher in the morning, say prayers while kneeling morning and night and get physical activity every day except Sunday when I take a day of rest (but still might go for a walk). I do still have misses here and there, especially when routines are disrupted - but on the whole I'm making progress and becoming more consistent. Between these tweaks and being given to much fasting and prayer for the welfare of my country and the world I've had the added benefit of dropping around ten pounds and losing four or so inches around my waist this year.

This morning I opted to again listen to music about the Savior to set the tone and ambience for honoring the Lord at this season of celebration of His victory over sin and death, with today marking a very challenging day for him in that process. For my workout I had a general plan of doing three sets of push-ups around 40 reps each set with matching kettlebell swings and 2-minute wall-sits between sets. For my first set I pushed through to 45 reps of pushups and matched that with 45 kettlebell swings and a 2-minute wall-sit as planned. My next set I gave out at 31 push-ups, rested around 15 seconds and pushed out 9 more to get to 40 and then did 40 KB swings and my wall-sit. For my final set, I did another 31 push-ups and moved on with other things I need to get to today, so that was my morning workout. I'll likely squeeze in a few more sets through the day. Yesterday, I ended up getting 50 pull-ups in sets of ten or at least batches of cluster building to ten throughout the day.

Ponderings

Today, rather than leading thoughts in a specific direction I'm going to simply share the following image and allow you to ponder on what it means to you:

Be strong!

It means the centre of all hope for a brighter tomorrow. Soldiers are there just doing a job. As far as they know they are executing a criminal. They know not what they do. One criminal ridicules Jesus one shows respect. A grieving mother and friend are counselled to take care of each other. And sometime soon as this scene plays out a centurion will say, “Surely this was the son of God.” In pondering on the picture I have to reflect on the great love responsible for all this terrible moment represents. The dishonest court case which didn’t follow the constitution of the Sanhedrin, the beatings, the thorns, and the propaganda that stirred the crowd into a frenzy is still happening today in a sense. I have thought that if I had been with him the night before I would have stayed with him. I would have stayed awake while he prayed.
