New Year: New Church Schedule

Published on 5 January 2025 at 14:01

Well it's much later in the day than I would typically share my thoughts. It was the first Sunday in the 9:00 am church block and my girls all needed help getting ready which left me without time to share thoughts from my recent studying.  Being the first Sunday of the month, it is also Fast Sunday. I helped prepare my oldest last night with a reminder that today would be Fast Sunday and that I would like her to try fasting until we came home from church. I have never enforced a fast on her, but gently encourage it as she is old enough to work on it. She was expressing that it's hard not to eat and I explained how by putting off the desires of our physical body we can draw closer to the Lord in spirit. I didn't want to inundate her with too many ideas at once, but we have talked previously about various aspects of fasting and how by paying a fast offering based on the food we would have eaten, but didn't it's an inspired way for us to look out for those who aren't as fortunate and may not fast by choice.

I certainly find that having purpose to go with my fast makes it not only seem easier, but also more meaningful. Do you find fasting to be a joyful occasion?

Be Strong!
