Fulfilled in me

As I was listening to 3 Nephi 11-16 I felt drawn to the idea of the law being fulfilled in Jesus. It got me thinking about what it means to be fulfilled. The Lord stated the law is not done away, but is fulfilled and has an end in Him. My first thoughts were swayed into the idea of something being fulfilled as being complete, which also had me drawing parallels to the Lord commanding to be perfect as he and the Father are perfect. I've heard the idea before that perfection is completion, and so if the Law were to be completed by Jesus, it is perfected by Jesus... if it came from God in the first place why wasn't it already perfect? The children of Israel couldn't abide a perfect law and Moses was reissued the lesser law. Lesser laws have a purpose in bringing us to Christ, but when that is accomplished they have their end and have fulfilled their purpose, but is this the same as the law itself being fulfilled?

I tried looking up the definition of fulfill in the 1828 Webster's dictionary to get an idea of how the word was used at the time of the translation of the Book of Mormon. Interestingly, there was no result for the word fulfill, so I simply used a search engine and was given the following:

  1. To bring into actuality; effect or make real."fulfilled their promises; fulfilled her dream."
  2. To do, perform, or obey (a task or order, for example); carry out.
  3. To meet (a requirement or condition); satisfy. synonym: satisfy.
    Similar: satisfy

It occurred to me that Jesus met all of these conditions. He did and performed the Law, and followed the commandments he was given of His father. In doing so He satisfied the law by meeting the requirements to save us all. This brought the law into efficacy, as without the atoning sacrifice of our beloved Savior, the law would be powerless to save us.

Accountability Updates

Still going strong with tiny commitments. Scripture study on the whole is improving, workout performance is getting better and the consistency is paying off.

Today was squats: 3x25 at body-weight with only fifteen seconds between sets. That final set certainly burned a bit and got my breathing going.

Let me know how you're doing.

Be strong!

Good thoughts, Yes, the great and last sacrifice provides the infinite atonement. Every single requirement of the Law of Moses will be fulfilled. Every requirement of justice is satisfied and nothing more can be demanded by justice. Infinite, wow that’s an all encompassing, complete, fulfilled, kind of word. It’s good pondering with you.
